Joseph A. "Joe" DeSousa, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Harrington House Skilled Nursing Center in Walpole, after a period of failing health. He was the son of the late Manuel S. DeSousa and Ilda C. (Monteiro) DeSousa. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, he was raised on Santa Maria and came to the United States at age 11. He has been a resident of Stoughton since that time. Joe attended Stoughton Schools. For many years, Joe enjoyed spending time helping out his family and the staff at his sister's family's restaurant, Albert's Restaurant in Stoughton. Recently, he enjoyed his time spent at the Old Colony Adult Day Care in Brockton. He was a lover of puzzles and enjoyed making paper boats to give as gifts to friends and anyone else he met.
Joe is survived by his devoted siblings; Libania L. "Lee" Brazao of Stoughton, Louise C. Cabral of Taunton and Peter M. DeSousa of FL. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held in the Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton, on Saturday at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton prior to the Mass from 9-10 AM. Donations in Joe's memory may be made to the Old Colony Adult Day Care, 10 N. Pearl St., Brockton, 02301.
