Joseph R. Dawe, Jr., age 87, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully on May 11, 2016 at Heights Crossing in Brockton after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was the beloved husband of 63 years of Dorothy (Knell) Dawe. Born in Everett, he was raised and educated in Revere and was a 1947 graduate of Revere High School and earned both his Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree from Boston University. During the Korean War, he served in the United States Army. Joseph then embarked on a 44 year career in education as an elementary school teacher and administrator in Revere and Stoughton. He served as principal of the North Elementary School in Stoughton for 27 years and upon his retirement in 1996, the school was renamed in his honor. Joseph was active in civic life of Stoughton as a town meeting representative and volunteer poll worker. He was also a passionate supporter of Stoughton High School Athletics and for over twenty years serves as the P.A. Announcer at the Stoughton High School Football games. In his free time, Joseph enjoyed gardening, the Red Sox, the Patriots and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Joseph R. Dawe, III and his wife Kathryn of Duxbury and Bonnie Donahue and her husband Michael of Moultonboro, NH. He was the grandfather of Kelley Donahue and Michael Donahue. He was the twin brother of George Dawe of North Carolina and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, May 16 at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday from 2-5 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
