Joseph D. Coffey, 86, a longtime resident of Stoughton and Dennisport, died Sunday, February 15 at his home. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Gilberte (Gladu) Coffey. He was the loving father of Donna M. Coffey of Stoughton, Donald G. Coffey and his wife Susan of Atchison, KS and Denise E. Coffey of Thompson, CT. He was the loving grandfather of Thomas, Kevin and Elizabeth. Joseph was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Born in Boston, Mr. Coffey was a graduate of Watertown High School, Class of 1942 and Boston College, Class of 1950. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of World War II. He was a resident of Stoughton since 1962 and summered in Dennisport since 1972. After graduating from Boston College he worked for over 30 years in the Treasury Department as a revenue agent in Boston and Brockton until his retirement in 1984. A longtime communicant of St. James Church in Stoughton, he also served as a Eucharistic Minister until his health declined. He enjoyed weekly golf matches with his friends.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Friday, February 20 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday 4-8 PM. Interment will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Due to floral restrictions at cemetery, donations in Joseph's memory may be made to St. James Youth Ministry, 560 Page St., Stoughton, MA 02072.
