Jose M. Tavares, 76, died Sunday, April 1, 2012 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington after a period of declining health. He was the husband of 55 years of Zelia M. (Medeiros) Tavares. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, he was raised and educated in Sao Miguel. He was a Veteran of the Portuguese Army. Mr. Tavares moved to the United States in 1969 and settled in Stoughton. He worked at Wesco in Stoughton for many years, retiring in 1998. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, carpentry and watching TV, and above all, spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Tavares is survived by his children, Fatima T. Pereira and her husband Steve of Norton, Filomena T. Rego and her husband Manuel and Dennis M. Tavares all of Stoughton. He was the brother of Julia Medeiros and Ilda Mendonca both of Stoughton and the late Manuel Tavares. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Thursday, April 5 at 11:00 AM followed by a Funeral Blessing at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 12:00 PM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. A Pro-Burial Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 AM.
