Jose F. Nunes, 83, of Stoughton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Copley at Stoughton Nursing Home on Sunday, May 5, 2019. He was the loving husband of Maria (Godinho) Nunes for over 57 years. Mr. Nunes was born, raised and educated on the island of Terceira in the Azores. Jose worked as a machine operator for the Norwood Stamping Company for many years, retiring several years ago. In his free time, he loved to garden and grow his grape vines, and in the summer, he enjoyed fishing in Hull and catching crabs off the banks of Cape Cod. He was a member of the San João Filarmonica Society in Stoughton. In his retirement Mr. Nunes loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Maria Teixeira and her husband Antonio of Taunton, Ana Nunes and her longtime partner Steve Sarney of Easton, Pedro Nunes of Texas, Kelly Nunes and her longtime companion Eric Lekberg and Jennie Nunes all of Stoughton. He was the grandfather to Jaxson and Christian. He was predeceased by his siblings, Nazare Olivera and Manuel Mendes. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27), Stoughton on Thursday, May 9 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Interment will be private.
