Jose P. Gomes, 92, passed peacefully in the company of his family on December 25, 2015 at his home in Stoughton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of 65 years of Maria Francelina (Emilio) Gomes. Born in Cape Verde, he was raised and educated in Cape Verde. He worked in Cape Verde as a School Teacher and Musician for many years. He came to the United States in 1967 and settled in Boston Proper before moving to Stoughton over 8 years ago. Known for his personality, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family, fishing and music.
He was the father of Jose DePina of Cape Verde, Maria Cardoso of RI, Elizabeth E. Gomes of Dorchester, Fatima G. Mesmar of Stoughton, Jovina E. Gomes of Plymouth, Jose A. Gomes of Brockton, Paulina E. Hunter of Hanson, Edna E. Gomes of Weymouth, Ana L. Gomes of Winthrop, Johnny E. Gomes of Boston and Ashley D. Gomes of Braintree. He was predeceased by 2 sisters and is survived by his wife, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and neices.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, December 31 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 5-8 PM. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in memory may be made to Rosie's Place, 889 Harrison Ave, Boston, 02118.
