Jose J. Furtado, 82, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on Thursday, March 24, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Cecilia H. (Frade) Furtado for 58 years. Born and raised in Flores, Azores, Portugal, he moved to Canada in 1960, then to Nevada in 1966 before settling in Stoughton in 1969. Jose worked for Cumberland Farms for many years then for Analog Devices in Norwood for 17 years before retiring in 1998. He was a member of Club Luis de Camões in Stoughton and Sociedade Filarmónica De São João in Stoughton, where he loved playing in the band for many years. He also enjoyed gardening.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Furtado is survived by his sister, Maria Henriques of Stoughton. He was the brother-in-law of Angelo and Maria Avelar, Antonio and Maria Frade and Antonio Costodio and his late wife Margarida. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and sisters and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, March 29 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Monday from 5-8 PM. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
