Jose S. Alves, 76, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. He was the husband of Maria B. (Alves) Alves for 54 years. Son of the late Francisco and Adelina (Silveira) Alves, he was born and raised in Fajazinha, Flores, Azores, Portugal. Jose was a Veteran of the Portuguese Army. He has resided in Stoughton since 1970. Jose was a warehouse worker for Morse Shoe and J. Baker Shoe both in Canton for many years before retiring at age 64. He also owned America's Superette in Stoughton for 10 years.
Mr. Alves was a member, Past Treasurer, musician and conductor of Sociedade Filarmonica de Sao Joao in Stoughton. He was also a member and Past President of Clube Luis de Camoes in Stoughton. Jose had a passion for music and enjoyed playing many instruments. He also enjoyed playing cards, Carnaval and watching soccer, especially Sporting.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Alves is survived by his children, Adelina A. Pinheiro and her husband Norberto of Stoughton, Jose N. Alves and his wife Rosemary Loura-Alves of Lakeville, Francisco A. Alves and his fiancé Natalia Pimentel of Stoughton and Paulo J. Alves of Stoughton, as well as his grandchildren, Paul Pinheiro and his wife Katie, Jason Pinheiro and his wife Taylor, Larissa Alves and Bianca Alves and his great-grandson, Owen Pinheiro. He was the brother of Maria Valadao and her husband Jose of Stoughton and the late Jacinto Alves. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Susete Alves of Stoughton and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, September 9 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
