Jorge V. Gomes, 80, died unexpectedly Monday, January 11, 2021 at the Marlboro Hospital in Marlboro. He was the husband of the late Maria M. (Moura) Gomes. Born, raised and educated on the island of Flores in the Azores, Portugal, he came to the United States in 1974 and settled in Stoughton, where he raised his family. Mr. Gomes worked for Stoughton Rubber and also for Qual Craft in Stoughton, for many years, retiring at age 65. He was a longtime communicant of Immaculate Conception Church and a member of Club Luis Camoes and the San Joao Filharmonic Club. In his free time, Jorge enjoyed woodworking, making model boats and walking. He also enjoyed grafting trees, tending to his grape vines and spending time with his family.
Jorge is survived by his two sons, Anibal J. Gomes and his wife JoAnn of Fairhaven, and Joe A. Gomes and his wife Anna of Bridgewater. He was the grandfather of Nicholas Holmes. He was the brother of Maria Encarnacao Gomes Mendonca and was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid restrictions, Funeral Services will be private with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Jorge's memory may be made to Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton, 02072.
Visiting hour starts at 11 am, Thursday.. it is a private service and Covid 19 protocols will be requested.
