John R. Tobin, Jr., a longtime resident of Stoughton, died at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Monday, May 2, 2016. He was the husband of Anna M. (McStowe) Tobin for 68 years. Son of the late John R. and Catherine Tobin, he was born in Boston, raised in Dorchester and graduated from Boston Technical High School, Class of 1945. He was a Yeoman 3rd Class in the U.S. Navy and a Veteran of World War II. John was a resident of Stoughton since 1964. He was a master carpenter, working for various companies in the area for over 40 years. He retired from the Town of Stoughton at age 62. Mr. Tobin was a Past State Commander of the AMVETS and was a former VAVS representative for many years. He was also a Past Commander of the American Legion in Stoughton and Past Exalted Ruler of the Norwood Elks but his greatest passion was his family.
In addition to his wife, John was the father of Thomas F. Tobin and his wife Patricia of Norwood, Barbara A. Fobert of Carver, Michael J. Tobin and his wife Kathleen of Brockton, Kenneth J. Tobin of Laredo, TX and the late John R. Tobin, III. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, May 7 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in John's memory may be made to American Heart Assn., PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241.
