John "Peter" Simpson, 66, a resident of Norton, died peacefully at home on Thursday, December 7, 2017. He was the husband of 37 years of James F. Carlino. Son of the late C. Leslie and Agnes (Manning) Simpson, he was born and raised in Millis and graduated from Millis High School. He was also a graduate of Bryant & Stratton College in Boston. Peter resided in Norton since 2012 after residing in North Easton, Provincetown and St. Croix, USVI. Peter worked for 17 years at the Boston offices of Sears, Roebuck & Company and later owned and operated the Boatslip Beach Club and Sandpiper Guest House in Provincetown with his husband before retiring in 2001. Peter was a lifetime member of the Provincetown Rescue Squad, the Natural Resource Trust of Easton, The Easton Historical Society, Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts and longtime member of the Provincetown Business Guild. In 2000, Peter and his husband Jim received the first Briggs Award from the Easton Historic Commission for outstanding commitment to Historic Preservation in the Town of Easton for the restoration of their former home and gardens, "Unity Close" on Main Street. He was an avid reader, gardener and cook who loved to entertain. He loved the beach and swimming, especially in the ocean. Peter also was a collector of antiques and artwork. He was a lover of dogs, especially of the small herd of cocker spaniels he had over the years.
In addition to his husband, Peter is survived by his brothers, Edward F. Simpson and his wife Joan of Bourne and Leslie M. Simpson and his wife Janice of Millis. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Ermie W. Carlino of Stoughton, his sisters-in-law, Susan L. Carlino of Dedham and Marian Hadden of Taunton and his brother-in-law, Gary LaForest of Dedham. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, a gaggle of beautiful grand-nieces and grand-nephews and many quality friends of the world.
Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27), Stoughton on Monday, December 11 from 4-7 PM. Interment will be private. In Peter's own style, he leaves these final words; "Say Goodbye."
