John H. Payson, 72, died Thursday, October 22, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. Born and raised in Medford, he was a graduate of Medford High School Vocational Program. He was a resident of Stoughton for over 25 years. During his time in Stoughton, John was blessed with many wonderful and devoted friends. Mr. Payson worked at the Franklin Sporting Goods Warehouse in Stoughton for many years, retiring 10 years ago. He also worked as a bartender at the VFW in Stoughton for many years. John was an avid Boston sports fan who was known for his wonderful sense of humor. In his free time, he enjoyed reading and spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by his brother, Paul D. Payson and his wife Joanne of Naples, ME and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Clarence "Jim" Payson and Helen "Nancy" (Johnson) Payson and his sister Leslie A. Payson.
Funeral Prayers will be offered in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday Night at 7 PM. Visiting Hours prior to the prayers from 4-7 PM.
