John J. Murphy, 86, a longtime resident of Needham and Duxbury, died Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the BayPointe Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brockton, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of 62 years of Joan F. (Kraus) Murphy. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was raised and educated in Patchogue, NY and was a graduate of Brooklyn Tech. He was a graduate of Syracuse University and also did graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a resident of Stoughton for the past 3 years, previously living in Needham and Duxbury for 20 years each. He worked as an Engineer for Avery Denison Company in Framingham for many years, retiring over 20 years ago. Mr. Murphy was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Duxbury, the Cape Cod Woodturners Association and the Blue Hills Power Squadron. He was an avid sailor and also enjoyed woodturning, fishing and spending time on the ocean. Above all, he was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Murphy was the father of Eileen F. McCallum and her husband Richard of VA, Cecelia A. Murphy and her husband Scott Martin of Walpole, Frank J. Murphy and his wife Debbie Lohnes of Abington, Brenda J. Masciovecchio and her husband Joseph of Weymouth, John L. Murphy of NC and the late Matthew J. Murphy and Mark T. Murphy. He was the Father in Law of Joline Murphy of FL. He was the beloved grandfather of Maureen and Tim McCallum, Michael Masciovecchio, Allison Roy, Morgan Murphy and McKinsey Murphy and the great grandfather of Ashlynn McCallum. He was the brother of the late Kathleen Goetz, Christina Hallock, Phillip Murphy and James C. Murphy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, November 14, at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 5-8 PM. Burial will be at Rock Ridge Cemetery, Sharon.
