John F. Murphy

John F. Murphy, 93, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at his home after a period of failing health. He was the husband of 59 years of Mary E. (Fassnacht) Murphy. Born in Boston, he was raised in the South End and was a graduate of Boston English. He was also a graduate of Bentley School of Accounting. Mr. Murphy worked as an auditor for State Street Bank for 13 years, retiring in 1980. Prior to that, he worked for the City of Boston as a Deputy Collector of Taxes for over 30 years. Mr. Murphy was a WWII Veteran of the US Army. He was a member of the US Army Reserves for many years, retiring in 1974 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, traveling, crossword puzzles and working in his yard.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Paul V. Murphy of Mansfield, Brian G. Murphy of RI and Kathleen L. Raggiani of Foxboro. He was predeceased by his son John Kevin Murphy. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, March 31 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday 2-4 PM. Donations in John's memory may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph 02368. Burial will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
