John D. Morrissey, 78, died at home in Middleboro on Wednesday, January 13 after a period of failing health. Born and raised in Hyde Park, he attended Hyde Park Schools. He was a resident of Stoughton for 35 years before moving to Middleboro 10 years ago. Mr. Morrissey was a Private 1st Class in the U.S. Marine Corps and a veteran of the Korean War. He was an electrician at Massasoit Community College in Brockton for 11 years before retiring at age 70. Prior to that, he worked for James River Paper Company in Hyde Park for 40 years. In his free time he enjoyed guns, target shooting and motorcycle riding.
Mr. Morrissey is survived by his children, John F. Morrissey of Bridgewater, Patrick K. Morrissey of Stoughton, Michael F. Morrissey of Middleboro, Dorothy M. Morrissey of Taunton and F. Timothy Morrissey of Easton. He was the brother of May Sullivan of W. Roxbury, Louise Sullivan of Marlboro, Thomas Flaherty of Plymouth, Barbara Martell of Quincy and the late Arthur Morrissey. He is also survived by his former wife, Dorothy (Coxon) Morrissey of Stoughton and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Prayers will be offered in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Saturday, January 16 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours prior from 9-11 AM. Burial will be private. Donations in John's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Assn., 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
