John T. "Moe" Moriarty, 86, died Friday, July 13, at his home after a short illness under the care of Vista Care Hospice. He was the husband of the late Edna L. (Homer) Moriarty. Born in Hanover, he was a lifelong resident of Stoughton and a graduate of Stoughton Schools. Mr. Moriarty was a WWII Veteran of the US Army. He worked for the Stoughton Public Works Department for 34 years, retiring in 1987 as the Assistant Superintendent. He was a member of the Easton Rod & Gun Club and Ames Rod & Gun Club, both in Easton, the C.W. Welch Preserve in Stoughton, the Mass. Retirees and was a call firefighter in Stoughton for over 25 years. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and the outdoors.
He is survived by his children; Nancy L. Duggan and her husband Robert of Stoughton and Michael E. Moriarty and his wife Deborah of Lakeville. He was the grandfather of Tracy and Christopher Duggan and Caitlin and Erin Moriarty and the brother of the late Edward T. Moriarty.
Funeral service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, July 18 at 10 AM Visiting Hours Tuesday 4-8 PM. Donations in Moe's name may be made to Vista Care Hospice, 690 Canton St., Westwood, 02090. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
