John F. McDonnell

John F. McDonnell, 81, died Sunday, October 11, 2020, at the Tufts Medical Center in Boston. He was the loving husband of 57 years of Kathleen M. (Hough) McDonnell. Born in Boston, he was raised in Roxbury and Dedham and was a graduate of Christopher Columbus High School in the North End. In 1963 he married Kathy Hough and together they raised three children in Dedham. In 1976, they moved their family to Stoughton. John worked for Lifschultz Fast Freight and later at Coca-Cola in Needham for many years, retiring in 2004. He was an avid sports fan and a dedicated fan of all of the Boston Sports teams and also was a fan of the Atlanta Braves. In his free time, he enjoyed vacationing with his wife, playing Keno at Bob's Market and spending time with his beloved family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Kevin P. McDonnell and wife Ann Marie of Lakeville, Kathleen A. Cocchi and her husband Robert of Stoughton and John M. McDonnell and his wife Roisin of Ireland. He was the loving Papa of Joanne Sines and her husband Adam, Cameron and Derek Cocchi and Owen, Catraoine, Aidan and Daniel McDonnell. He recently welcomed his cherished great granddaughter Elsie Sines. John was the brother of Michael J. McDonnell of Foxboro, formerly of Dedham, and his twin brother, the late James E. McDonnell and the late Eileen Shackley, Mary Giampietro, Patricia Oginski and Joan Carol McDonnell. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours with Covid-19 precautions will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, October 17, 2020, from 8:30-9:30. Please note mandatory masks and social distancing measures will be in place Due to Covid restrictions, a Private Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will take place at Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham. Donations in John's memory may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave, Boston, 02215 or to the Disabled American Veterans, VA Regional Office, JFK Federal Bldg, Government Ctr., Boston, MA 02203.
