John J. "Joe" Mahoney

John J. "Joe" Mahoney

John J. "Joe" Mahoney, 92, died Thursday, January 9, 2013, at the Southwood at Norwell Nursing Home in Norwell, after a period of failing health. He was the loving husband of 64 years of Beverly A. (Wilding) Mahoney. Son of the late John J. Mahoney and Frances "Fanny" (Power) Mahoney, he was born and raised in Stoughton and was a graduate of Stoughton Schools and Maltby Business School. Mr. Mahoney was a longtime resident of Stoughton before moving to Leisurewoods in Rockland 25 years ago. Mr. Mahoney worked as a Machine Operator for Draper Brothers in Canton for many years, retiring in 1990. He was known as a wonderful storyteller and is the author of his family history known as "The History of the World". In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, reading and most of all, spending time with his wife, four daughters and their families.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Janice E. Christiano and her husband William of NH, Jean M. McInnis and her husband Robert of Harwich, Joyce A. Mayer and her husband William of Raynham and Joanne F. Karavetsos of Easton. He was the beloved grandfather of Kevin McInnis, Greg Christiano, Lauren O'Donnell, Alexandra Karavetsos and Nick Karavetsos. He was predeceased by his sister Rita Mears and is also survived by his 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Monday at 7:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 8:45 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday from 2-5 PM. Internment will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 10:30AM. Due to floral regulations at the cemetery, Joe's family has asked that donations be made to Children's Hospital, 401 Park Dr., Suite 602, Boston, 02215 in honor of the loving care extended to their family throughout the years.
