John Peter "JP" Maheras, age 44, of Chicago, IL, formerly of Hingham and Falmouth, a devoted husband, father and son, died suddenly in Chicago on Feb 15, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Eden (Playe) Maheras and loving father of Maximos Peter Maheras. Born in Weymouth, he was the son of Gail (Monson) Maheras of Falmouth and John P. Maheras. John was raised and educated in Braintree, Hingham and Falmouth and was a graduate of Thayer Academy in Braintree, The Berkshire School in Sheffield and Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. and did his graduate studies at American University in Washington, DC. At the time of his death he was the National Director of State and Local Government Relations for the Walgreen Company in Deerfield, IL. Previously, John worked for many years at Philip Morris/Altria/Kraft. Prior to that, he worked at the American Petroleum Institute, the National Republican Senatorial Committee and Direct Impact.
A lifelong Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and also a Chicago Cubs fan, "JP" loved and played many sports and most recently was a devotee of Crossfit. John's greatest love was his family; wife, son, mother, siblings and his dog, Maddy. He was also a devoted and selfless friend and colleague to many.
In addition to his wife, son and mother, John is survived by his sister Lauren Wakefield and her husband Jeff of Sandwich and his brother Gregory Maheras and his wife Elizabeth of Brookline. "JP" was the beloved uncle of Jessica, Molly and Melissa Wakefield and Suzanna, Ailish, Peter and Niko Maheras. He was the beloved son in law of Stephen and Ann Playe of FL and Nantucket and brother in law of Erik Playe of Ct. He was predeceased by his brother Peter John Maheras. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and many cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in the St. Francis of Assisi Church, 850 Washington St., Braintree on Saturday, June 30 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Blue Hills Cemetery, Braintree.
