John J. Keeley

John J. Keeley, 85, died peacefully at Hannah B.G. Shaw Home in Middleboro on Friday, October 20, 2017. He was the husband of the late Alice M. (O'Leary) Keeley. Born and raised in South Boston, and long time resident of Marshfield. He was a member of sheet union 17 for over 50 years and later earned his tax assessing certification from UMass Amherst. John was a Private 1st Class in the U.S. Army and a Veteran of the Korean War. He was also a tax assessor in Stoughton for 5 years. John enjoyed carpentry, his Irish heritage and Irish festivals. He was a Boy Scout Leader and volunteered at Saint Christine's church in Marshfield. He enjoyed being with children and teaching them about history but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.

John is survived by his children, Mary C. DeVasto of Brockton, Alice Higgins and her husband Bill of Attleboro, John J. Keeley, Jr. of Woburn and Michael F. Keeley and his wife Ceridwen of South Carolina, as well as his grandchildren, Katie Higgins, Valerie Becker, Matthew, Julianna and Nicholas DeVasto,Thomas and Kathleen Keeley and his great-granddaughter, Farrah. He is survived by Mary Raymond of Quincy, Kay Robillard of Stoneham, Joseph Keeley of Connecticut and the late Michael, Francis, William and Josephine Keeley and Eileen McDevitt. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Gate of Heaven Church, 615 E. 4th St., South Boston on Friday, October 27 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave., Bourne at 2:15 PM. Visiting Hours omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
