John T. "Jack" Howley, 80, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Sunday, October 14, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the husband of the late Carol A. (Hartnett) Howley. Born and raised in Dorchester, he was a graduate of Commerce High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Boston State and a Master's Degree from Northeastern University. He worked as a History and English Teacher in the Boston School System for many years, retiring at age 54. He was very active in the Boston Teacher's Union for many years. He was a history buff who loved going to parks and museums, historical movies, traveling, and dining out. He was also a fan of the Patriots and Red Sox. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Jack is survived by his son John W. "Jack" Howley of RI and Cheryl A. Avedissian of Walpole, formerly of Stoughton. He was the grandfather of Cara M. Avedissian and great grandfather of Jaxon Michael Dip. He was the brother of Marie Duff of Milton, Francis Howley of Stoughton and the late James Howley. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, October 19, at 11 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. John's Church, Canton at 12 PM. Visiting Hours Thursday, October 18, from 5-8 PM. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452. Interment will take place at Canton Corner Cemetery, Canton.
