John P. Hines, 82, died at the Copley at Stoughton Nursing Home on Monday, July 16 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Julia F. Knox. Born in Roxbury, he was a graduate of Mission High School, Class of 1942 and attended Suffolk University. Mr. Hines was a resident of Stoughton for 51 years. He was an U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. Mr. Hines was a Plating Supervisor for Hermetite Corp. in Avon for 45 years before retiring 20 years ago. He was an avid fisherman in his free time.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hines is survived by his sons, Peter J. Hines and Michael F. Hines and his wife Wendy J. all of Stoughton and his daughter, Ellen A. Marinakis and her husband George N. of New Milford, CT. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael S. Hines and his wife Rebecca, Lindsey B. Hines and her fiance James Murphy, Nicholas G. Marinakis and Christina H. Marinakis as well as his great-granddaughter, Mackenzie H. Hines. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul J. Hines and his siblings, Edward Hines, Rev. George Hines, Frank Hines, Joseph Hines, Helen Hines, Mary Corbett, Theresa Donelan and Winifred Downey. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, July 20 at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:15 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday 4-8 PM. Burial will take place at the VA National Cemetery in Bourne. Donations in John's name may be made to the charity of your choice.
