John C. Hathaway, 84, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston on Friday, February 10, 2017. He was the husband of Virginia C. (Gill) Hathaway for 61 years. Born in Wareham, he was raised in Bridgewater and graduated from Quincy Trade School, Class of 1951. John was a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and a Veteran of the Korean War. He was a resident of Stoughton since 1960. John was a master plumber for many years, working for Ed Lindelof in Stoughton for 6 years, Lydon & Haas in Norwood for 10 years and the Goddard Hospital in Stoughton for 15 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of Christ Congregational Church in Brockton and the American Legion Post 89 in Stoughton. He was an avid bowler.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his sons, Tim Hathaway and his wife Barbara of Norton, Mark Hathaway and his wife Beth of Hardy, VA and Paul Hathaway and his wife Joan of Rochester. He was the brother of Shirley Hunt of Middleboro, Nancy Fisher of Springhill, FL, David Hathaway of Bridgewater and Virginia Riley of Wareham. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held from Christ Congregational Church, 1350 Pleasant St., Brockton, MA 02301 on Friday, February 17 at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to Christ Congregational Church at above address.
