John A. Hardy

John A. Hardy, 90, died Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the beloved husband of 69 years of Elizabeth B. (Dashner) Hardy. Born in Roxbury, he was raised and educated in West Roxbury and was a graduate of Boston English High School. Mr. Hardy was a WWII Veteran of the US Navy serving from 1942-1945. He worked as a firefighter for the City of Boston for many years, retiring in 1980 with the rank of Lieutenant. He was stationed in the South End with Engine 22 and Engine 33. Mr. Hardy was a resident of Stoughton for over 55 years, before moving to Easton two years ago. He was a member of Firefighters Local 718 in Boston , the American Legion in Dedham, the Castle Island Association and the Disabled American Veterans in West Roxbury. In his free time, he enjoyed music, dancing and taking cruises with his wife.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; John A. Hardy, Jr and his wife Susan of NH and Geraldine M. DeLoughrey and her husband James "Duke" of Easton. He was the beloved grandfather of John A. Hardy III, Holly Commesso, Jennifer Hardy, Erik J. DeLoughrey and Heather A. DeLoughrey. He was the brother of the late Mary Hartnett, Edna Savage, Theresa Whelan and Muriel Fitzgibbons. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Thursday at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Easton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in his memory may be made to the Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Place, Randolph or to the Boston Fire Relief Fund, 115 Southampton St., Boston, 02118.
