John F. "Grampy" Gatturna
May 2, 1939 - February 22, 2025
John F. “Grampy” Gatturna of Boston, age 85, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025, at the Faulkner Hospital in Boston. Born and raised in Boston (Jamaica Plain), he was the son of the late Antonio G. “Thomas” Gatturna and Elizabeth J. (Gallivan) Gatturna. As a Master Plumber, John was a proud member of Local 12 Plumbers and Gasfitters Union for 60 years.
John “Grampy” would always light up a room as soon as he walked in, with his vibrant smile and infectious sense of humor with many stories to tell. He enjoyed cooking, riding his Harley, and going to the beach and movies, but above all his biggest passion was his family, and was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He always filled his family’s lives with endless love, and phrases such as “Give me a kiss, 1, 2, or one more!” and always making sure to say “I love you” every time he saw them. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and those who had the honor of knowing him.
John is survived by the love of his life, Mary Vespa of Holliston. He is also survived by his beloved children Denise Gatturna of Hull, John Gatturna of Tennesse, Barbara Vespa of Framingham, Phillip Vespa of Worcester, Johnna Bonavire and her husband Richard of Medway, and Thomas Gatturna of Worcester. He was also the devoted Grampy to his grandchildren, Anthony and Gianna Gatturna, Sarah Evans, Thomas Suttill, Bailey and Liliana Vespa, Lauren Dunn, and great-grandchildren Kylie and Jason Evans. He was preceded in death by his siblings Thomas, David and Robert Gatturna, and sister Gloria Vanaria and Elizabeth “Betty” Gatturna. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Alice Gatturna of Holbrook, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Rt. 27), Stoughton, on Monday March 10th from 5-8 PM. Funeral will be held the next day, Tuesday March 11th at the funeral home at 9:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton at 10:30 AM.
