John R. Cole, 69, a longtime resident of Brockton, died unexpectedly at home on Monday, April 24, 2017. He was the husband of Mary D. (Dewire) Cole for 37 years. Son of the late Richard and Muriel (Obenaus) Cole, he was born in Kingston, NY and raised in Maine. John was a graduate of Northeastern University, where he was an NEZ Fraternity member. He was a medic in the U.S. Army Reserves for several years. He was a resident of Stoughton for 15 years, where he owned Awards of Distinction trophy shop. For the past 17 years, he lived in Brockton and worked at Sears until his retirement 2 years ago.
John's passion was music, especially singing. He was a member of Jubilate Chorale for many years and the Stoughton Musical Society prior to that. He was also a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church Choir, as well as their Vestry. John was a member of the Union Lodge AF & AM.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughter, Rebecca (Cole) Kovach and her husband Joe of Bellingham. He was the brother of Ronald Cole of Portland, ME and Wayne Cole of Dartmouth and is also survived by several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held from the Trinity Episcopal Church, 414 Sumner St., Stoughton on Friday, April 28 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours will be held from Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday from 4-7 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church Organ Fund, 414 Sumner St., Stoughton, MA 02072.
