Rev. John R. Baillie, 95, a longtime resident of Brockton, died peacefully at Life Care Center of West Bridgewater on Sunday, April 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Bethia “Thea” (Watson) Baillie. Son of the late George and Hannah Baillie, he was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland where he graduated from Hurlett Nazarene College then the Nazarene Theological Seminary. After pastoring in Scotland and England, he became Chaplain at Canadian Nazarene College. He was then called to the United States where he was Pastor at the Brockton First Church of the Nazarene for several years before doing evangelistic work. Rev. Baillie then pastored at Faith Baptist Church in Stoughton for 19 years while simultaneously serving as Chaplain at the New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton for 29 years. After living in Stoughton, John and Thea moved in with their daughter and granddaughter in Bridgewater then moved to Brockton where he resided for the past 19 years. He enjoyed reading the Bible, singing with his wife, painting and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rev. Baillie is survived by his children, Pauline R. Collins, Jacqueline A. Fenno and her husband Michael and Heather Joy Baillie, all of Brockton and John G. Baillie and his life partner Eileen Mullins of Foxboro. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Heather, Amanda, Tiffany, Justin and Michael, Jr. as well as his great-grandchildren, Kayla, Caden, Jordan, Julian, Jayce, Jaxon, Katelyn, Christian and Malcolm. He was the brother of Mae Pearson of Canada and the late George Baillie and Rita Robertson and is also survived by several nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, April 29 from 4-7 PM. Funeral Services will be held at the Faith Baptist Church, 18 Stoughton St., Stoughton on Tuesday, April 30 at 10 AM. Interment will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pastor Baillie’s memory may be made to Faith Baptist Church, 18 Stoughton St., Stoughton, MA 02072 or the Church of the Nazarene, Burger St., Glasgow, Scotland.
