John M. "Jack" Ahern, 91, a longtime resident of Sharon, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. He was the husband of the late Maryjane (Duggan) Ahern. Son of the late Michael Alphonsus Ahern and Agnes L. (McAuley) Ahern, he was born in Brookline and raised in Quincy. He was a graduate of North Quincy High School. Jack was a Seaman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy and a Veteran of World War II. He resided in Sharon since 1960. Jack worked for Boston Gas for 43 years before retiring over 20 years ago. He also worked for the Sharon Special Police for 28 years. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a longtime member of the Sharon Fish & Game. He was the author of "Bound for Munsungun," a history book of hunting camps in Northern Maine. He also belonged to the Archeology Society and enjoyed meeting his friends every morning at Dunkin' Donuts.
Jack is survived by his children, John M. Ahern, Jr. and his wife Debbie of West Boylston and Jeanmarie C. Ahern of Maine, as well as his grandchildren, Petty Officer Thomas Ahern, US Navy, Caitlin, Yvette, Johnny, Angelina, Kevin and Natalie. He was the brother of the late Kathleen Ahern and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 59 Cottage St., Sharon on Monday, April 9 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Sunday from 2-5 PM. Interment will be private.
