Joao A. Vasconcelos, 92, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. He was the husband of the late Maria G. (Freitas) Vasconcelos. Born and raised in Flores, Azores, Portugal, he served in the Portuguese Army for 4 years. He resided in Stoughton since 1971. Mr. Vasconcelos was a machine operator at Qual-Craft in Stoughton for 22 years before retiring at age 62. He also worked as a part-time landscaper for many years, often working with his sons. João was a longtime communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton. He was a member of Club Luis de Camoes in Stoughton. He was an avid Benfica fan, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Mr. Vasconcelos was the father of Jose M. Vasconcelos and his wife Maria F., Francisco A. Vasconcelos and his wife Maria F., João M. Vasconcelos and his wife Maria P. and Maria F. Pimentel and her former husband Luis all of Stoughton and the late Maria C. Vasconcelos. He was the grandfather of Marcia Amorim, Anabela Vasconcelos, Nicole Vasconcelos, Marisa Brown, Christina Camara, João Vasconcelos and Eric Pimentel and the great-grandfather of Owen Amorim, Julia Camara, Ariana Brown and Ella Camara. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, February 27 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 5-8 PM. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
