Joao DeOlim, 87, died Saturday, January 23, at his home under the care of Beacon Hospice, after a period of failing health. He was the husband of 55 years of Elisa D. (DePonte) DeOlim. Born in Machico, Madeira, Portugal, he was raised and educated in Madeira. He was a resident of Stoughton for over 17 years, before moving to Mansfield in 2009. Mr. DeOlim worked as a laborer for Cumberland Farms in Canton for 16 years, before retiring in 1986. He was a longtime communicant of Immaculate Conception Church. In his free time, he enjoyed playing cards and dominos, watching television and working in his garden.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Jose DeOlim and Maria DeOlim both of Raynham, John DeOlim of Stoughton, Marilyn Bayley of Mansfield and Antonio DeOlim of Wareham. He is also survived by his sister Miquelina of Brazil 13 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Wednesday, January 27 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday, January 26, 5-8 PM. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
