Joanne G. (McEvoy) Blomstrom, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 with her loving daughters by her side. Daughter of the late Raymond R. and Lilah (Gearen) McEvoy, she was born in Stoughton and graduated from Stoughton High School. She then earned degrees at Lasell College in Newton and Simmons College in Boston. Joanne was an instructor at UMass-Dartmouth for 20 years and founded the Fashion Institute which served to build a relationship between the manufacturers and local retailers with UMass Dartmouth. She was a fashion commentator and owned her own consulting business for years. She was a longtime member of Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton and was the first woman elected to their Board of Directors. She served on the Stoughton School Committee for 13 years and the Board of Selection for 7 and was a member of the Cedar Hill committee. She was the original petitioner for the Bird Street Conservation land and developed the concept for the "Hall of Fame for Extraordinary Achievement" at Stoughton High School.
Joanne was the mother of Jan G. LeDonne of Canton, Sue G. Blomstrom of Stoughton, Dianne G. Hadges of Easton and the late John G. Blomstrom. She was the grandmother of Christopher, Katie, Tate and Jack.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton on Saturday, May 9 at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours omitted. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joanne's memory may be made to the Joanne McEvoy Blomstrom Scholarship Fund, PO Box 194, North Easton, MA 02356.
