Joan K. (Kraus) Murphy, 89, died Saturday, September 16, 2017, at the BayPointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brockton, after a short illness. She was the wife of the late John J. Murphy. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was raised and educated in Camden, NJ and was a graduate of Camden Catholic High School. She also did coursework at Rutgers University and Northeastern University. She was a resident of Stoughton for the past 4 years, previously living in Needham for over 20 years and Duxbury for over 20 years. She was a dedicated homemaker and mother to her 7 children. Throughout her adult live she enjoyed traveling, both in the States and abroad and cherished her memories of trips to Hong Kong, Korea, Ireland, Canada and throughout Europe. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, sailing, needlepoint and knitting. She also enjoyed Chinese brush painting and spending time with her beloved family.
Mrs. Murphy was the mother of Eileen F. McCallum and her husband Richard of VA, Cecelia A. Murphy and her husband Scott Martin of Walpole, Frank J. Murphy and his wife Debbie Lohnes of Abington, Brenda J. Masciovecchio and her husband Joseph of Weymouth, John L. Murphy of NC and the late Matthew J. Murphy and Mark T. Murphy. She was the beloved grandmother of Maureen Moore, Tim McCallum, Michael Mascioveccwhio, Allison Masciovecchio, Morgan Murphy and McKinsey Murphy and the great grandmother of Ashlynn McCallum. Joan was the sister of Joyce Schmidt of NJ, Emily Kohm of Bedford and the late Claire Duffy. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday September 22 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 5-8 PM. Burial will be at Rock Ridge Cemetery, Sharon.
