Jeannette (Suethugu) Nelligan-Smits, 78, died Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a long illness. She was the wife of William C. Smits. Born, raised and educated in Japan, she came to the United States and settled in Hyde Park. She was a resident of Stoughton for over 50 years. Mrs. Nelligan-Smits worked as a floral designer for Especially Yours Florist and Great Elm Greenhouse both in Easton for many years. She retired 6 years ago. In her free time, she enjoyed shopping, cooking and reenacting civil and revolutionary war battles. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Thomas E. Nelligan of Lynn and Kim Hannon and her husband Michael of Canton. She was the stepmother of Beverly A. Smits of Amherst. She was the proud grandmother of Kylie Hannon, Miken Hannon and Liana Smits.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Tuesday at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Monday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery Stoughton. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
