Jeanne M. (Hemphill) Parenteau, 80, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Sunday, January 31 at her home, surrounded by her beloved family. She was the wife of the late Walter Parenteau, Boston PD (Ret.). Born in Boston, she was raised and educated in Dorchester and was a graduate of Boston Schools. Mrs. Parenteau was a resident of Stoughton for many years, before retiring to Port Charlotte, FL. Several years ago, she returned to Stoughton to be closer to her family. Mrs. Parenteau worked as a Lab Technician at the Goddard Hospital in Stoughton for over 25 years before retiring in 1982. She also worked in the Medical Offices of Dr. Tyer and Dr. Field in Stoughton. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, reading, Bar Bingo, watching classic movies, playing cards with her grandkids and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Parenteau was the mother of John F. "Jack" Gaffney of RI, Patricia L. DeCosta of NH, Jill M. Forman and Christine Murphy Campilio both of Mansfield, Michael E. Gaffney and Robert G. Gaffney both of Easton, Joseph F. Gaffney of Stoughton and the late Susan J. Gaffney. She was the stepmother of Walter Parenteau, Jr, Nicole Parenteau and Joseph Parenteau. She was the sister of Nancy Hazelwood of Lakeville, Dorothy Clark, Robert Hemphill and Kathleen King all of Quincy, James Hemphill of Plymouth, Donna Parshley of Stoughton and the late Norman Hemphill. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on at Thursday, February 11 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 5-8 PM. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Jeanne's memory may be made to Hope Hospice, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601.
