Jean R. (Moran) McGrath

Jean R. (Moran) McGrath, 93, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Thursday, April 4, 2024.  Daughter of the late Frederick and Catherine (McCauley) McGrath, she was born in Cambridge, raised and educated in Hyde Park and was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Boston. In 1954 she married John I. McGrath and together they raised five beloved children and enjoyed 65 years of marriage before his death in 2019.  In 1966, they moved their young family to Stoughton.  Jean was a loving wife, mother and homemaker who devoted her life to her family.  After raising her family, she worked as a Teacher’s Aide at the West School in Stoughton for several years and previously worked at BayBank and at Gilchrist’s in Brockton. In her free time, she enjoyed entertaining friends and, above all, loved being surrounded by her family and her beloved grandchildren.  

Jean is survived by her children, Eileen M. Purcell, John F. McGrath and his wife Debra, Kathleen A. Millican and Kevin F. McGrath all of Stoughton and Paula M. McGrath and her longtime companion Michael Mason of Norton.  She was the grandmother of Kellie, Michael, Matthew, Daniel, Kimberly, Kayla and Shauna and the great grandmother of Lola.  Jean was the sister of Carol Carney of Melrose and the late Paul Moran, Stephen Moran, Sheila King and Lois McGillvray.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 10-11AM followed by Funeral Prayers at 11AM.  Interment will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Drive, Bourne at 1:15PM.  Due to Floral Restrictions at the cemetery, Jean’s family has asked that donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
