Janet M Leaver, D.O.

Janet M. Leaver, D.O., 73, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died Thursday, September 19, 2024 at the AccentCare Hospice in Milton, after a long period of declining health. Born in Dorchester, daughter of the late Florence A. (Hanlon) and Gerald J. Leaver, she was raised in Stoughton and attended St. Mary’s School and was a graduate of Cardinal Spellman High School in Brockton. Janet then attended Emmanuel College in Boston, graduating Magna Cum Laude and earned her Master’s Degree in Chemistry from Boston College. After teaching Chemistry at King Philip High School for a short time, Janet enrolled at the New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, ME and, after her graduation, began her career as a Medical Doctor. She worked in Family Medicine in Stoughton for several years and later worked as a Claims Adjuster for the Social Security Administration for many years, retiring several years ago. At the age of 28, she was diagnosed with cancer and bravely fought through the disease until she was cancer free. She was a longtime communicant of Immaculate Conception Church and a loyal alumnae of Cardinal Spellman and Emmanuel College and enjoyed attending their alumni events. Janet was a Disney fanatic and loved her trips to the Magic Kingdom and the Disney Parks with her beloved nieces and nephews. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, painting, reading and crossword puzzles. Janet’s faith, family and her cat Vera were the center of her life.

Janet was a longtime resident of Stoughton Senior Housing and was gifted with many friends, and devoted neighbors while there. As Janet’s health began to fail, she was blessed with her home health aide Esther, who treated her with honor and respect while she stayed at home. Her final days were spent in the care of Accent Care Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Milton who tended to her with dignity and compassion. The Leaver Family is grateful to all that helped Janet during these times. 

Janet was the sister of George Leaver and his wife Lynne of Middleboro, Paul Leaver and his late wife Barbara of Stoughton and the late Gerald J. Leaver and his surviving wife Norine Leaver of Stoughton, the late John M. Leaver and his surviving wife Tammie Cumming of FL and the late Virginia M. Leaver. She was the aunt of Colleen Leaver, Julianne Marrion, Joe Leaver, Mark Leaver, Robert Leaver, Corey Leaver, Rev. Kevin Leaver and Christopher Leaver. She is also survived by her many beloved cousins, aunts and uncles.

Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday September 25, 2024 from 4-7 PM. Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Thursday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stougton at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Janet’s memory may be made to the MSPCA Angell Memorial Hospital, 350 S. Huntington St., Boston, MA 02130.
