Jane Welch Sheehan, 61, died March 8, 2012, at her home after a long battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Michael J. Sheehan. Daughter of the late J. Edward and Margaret M. (Lanigan) Welch, she was born in Boston, educated in Stoughton Schools and graduated from Stoughton High School. She also earned her Bachelors Degree in English from Salem State College and her M. Ed in Guidance and Counseling from Bridgewater State College. Mrs. Sheehan also did extensive graduate work at Bridgewater State College, Fitchburg State College, Salem State College and Plymouth State College. A resident of North Easton since 1982, she has also been a longtime resident of Harwichport. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling and spending time on Cape Cod.
Mrs. Sheehan worked at Stoughton High School for over 25 years and retired as the Director of Guidance and Testing in 2007. She was a member of several professional associations, including the National Association for College Admissions Counseling, The New England Association for College Admissions Counseling and was the Past President of the Massachusetts School Counselors Association and the South Shore Guidance Association. After her retirement, she continued her work in Guidance at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood and at BC High in Dorchester.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sheehan is survived by her sister Mary Ellen Mulligan and her husband James of Randolph. She was the sister in law of Patricia E. Croft of Taunton and the aunt of Annie Croft and Michael Croft. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Tuesday, March 13 at 8:45 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Easton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Monday from 3-7 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Jane's memory may be sent to the charity of your choice.
