James M. Smith

James M. Smith, 58, a longtime resident of Stoughton, formerly of Bourne, died peacefully on Saturday, May 27, 2017 with his loving family by his side. Son of Imelda G. (Griffin) Smith of Stoughton and the late Anthony J. Smith, he was born in Boston and raised in Stoughton. He attended Stoughton High School. Jim lived in Bourne for several years before returning to Stoughton. He was a custodian at Peebles Elementary School in Bourne, where he was known as the beloved "Mr. Smith" for over 20 years. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and handy man, as well as an artist.

In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by his children, Cheryl A. Duffy and her husband Gary of Buzzards Bay, Jamie Allen and James M. Smith, Jr. and his longtime companion Becky Raymond of Stoughton. He was the brother of Anthony Smith, Dellis Donahue, Anna Berube, Margaret Fontaine, Constance Badin, Genevieve Glennon, Elizabeth Gailius, Judith Smith, Cornelius Smith, Gerald Smith, Rosemary Valiente, Kelly Schiffer and the late Mary Boudreau, Robert Smith and John Smith. He is also survived by his former wife, Sandra J. (Freeland) Smith, 5 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday from 4-8 PM. Funeral Services private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
