James Thomas "Tom" Rapson, 85, a longtime resident of Stoughton, MA, died peacefully at home on Friday, May 26, 2017. He was the husband of Karin M. (Cole) Rapson for 45 years. Son of the late Frank Glenn and Irene (McVey) Rapson, he was born and raised in Uniontown, PA. Tom graduated from South Union High School and Newbury Junior College in Brookline. He served in the U.S. Navy for over 26 years, retiring with the rank of Yeoman Chief Petty Officer in 1976 with 2 joint service commendations. His Navy career included assignments in England, France, Belgium, Boston, and Singapore. After retiring from the Navy, Tom worked as an office manager for Minot, Deblois and Madison, and later Rice, Heard & Bigelow in Boston for over 20 years before retiring in 2001. He played semi-pro football in Uniontown and was a champion horseshoe player in the Navy. He enjoyed traveling, shopping, Boston sports, reading and talking politics.
In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his children, Robert Glenn Rapson and his wife Youngsun of McLean, VA, and Jennifer Lynn Collings and her husband Fred of Ashaway, RI. He was the grandfather of Colin T. Rapson, Evan J. Rapson, Hilary L. Collings and Weston K. Collings. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Arlene and Lynetta.
Funeral Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, May 31 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours prior from 10-11 AM. Interment will take place at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Donations in Tom's memory may be made to the U.S.O., 427 Commercial St., Bldg. 8, Floor 2, Boston, MA 02109.
