James E. Hickey, 69, died unexpectedly at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was the husband of 21 years of Barbara A. (Peterson) Hickey. Born in Quincy, he was raised and educated in Stoughton and was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1965. He was a longtime resident of Quincy. Mr. Hickey was a Veteran of the United States Army. He worked as a Meat Cutter at Fulton Packing in Boston and Roxie's Market in Quincy for many years. Recently, he was working the cafeteria at the VA Medical Center in Jamaica Plain. Mr. Hickey was a friend of Bill W. He was an avid Boston Sports fan and a dedicated family man. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family on Cape Cod and leaning on the rail at Nantasket Beach.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Deborah A. Hickey and James E. Hickey both of Stoughton, John B. Hickey of Dorchester and Jeffrey Peterson of Hanson. He was the brother of Richard H. Hickey of Hanson, Joanne Hickey Frizzell of Middleboro, Patricia Hickey Gorman of Norfolk and the late Michael D. Hickey and John B. Hickey. He was the beloved "Papa" of Nicole, Amanda, Ashlyn, Andrew, Krista, Jacklyn, Kaori and Deegan. He was the beloved Great Papa of Ryan and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 PM. Due to floral regulations at the cemetery, the family has asked that donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Fr. Bill's Place, 430 Belmont St., Brockton, MA, 02301.
