James M. Grant, 78, died Monday, April 8, 2024, at the Morton Hospital in Taunton, after a long period of declining health. Born in Moline, IA, he was raised in Rock Island, IL until his family moved to Worcester while he was in his teens. He was a graduate of Classical High School in Worcester. Jim earned the designation of Eagle Scout as a young man. He was a Veteran of the US Navy and proudly served on the USS Wasp (CV-18) and participated in the historic recovery of the NASA Astronauts of the Gemini IV, Gemini VI and Gemini VII Capsules. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he returned home later married Joanne C. Gay and together they shared over 54 years together and raised two beloved children. Jim worked as an Electronics Engineer for Analog Devices in Norwood for over 25 years and later for Seiberco in Braintree for several years, before retiring many years ago. Jim was a longtime communicant of St. James Church in Stoughton and volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister, Pre Cana member and helped with the church finances. He enjoyed woodworking and home improvement and enjoyed working in his woodshop and building Doll Houses for his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Joanne C. (Gay) Grant, he is survived by his children, David J. Grant of Beverly and Deborah L. Grant-Chen of Chestnut Hill. He was the brother of Kathy Spencer and Thomas Grant, both of WI, Dale Grant of NH and the late John Grant and Judy Grant. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Camille I Grant and Gabby Chen.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Sunday, April 14, 2024 from 2-5 PM. Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Monday at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to St. James Church, Stoughton.
