James L. Gallagher, Jr., 53, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, after a long battle with Brain Cancer. He was the loving husband of 25 years to Vida (Thang) Gallagher. Born and raised in Brighton, he was a graduate of Our Lady of the Presentation School and Newton Catholic High School. Mr. Gallagher was a resident of Stoughton since 1997. He worked as a Route Sales Representative for Frito Lay for over 15 years and then for Peet's Coffee for 3 years before retiring due to his illness. Mr. Gallagher was an active member of Stoughton youth sports, well known as a passionate coach in youth soccer, basketball and baseball. His interests included running, Bruce Springsteen, and Irish music. Jim was also an avid food and beer connoisseur and a founding member of the "Men of Leisure".
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his beloved children; Melissa, Michael, and Matthew Gallagher, all of Stoughton and was preceded in death by Mr. Kitten, also of Stoughton. He was the son of James L. Gallagher of Brighton, originally from Co. Donegal, Ireland and the late Eileen (Kerins) Gallagher, originally from Co. Kerry, Ireland. Jim is also survived by his brother Daniel Gallagher of Billerica and his wife, Margaret, brother Kevin Gallagher of Seattle, WA and his wife, Gina, and sister Nancy Jacobs of Westwood and her husband Edward. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Caitlin, Brian, Patrick, Rachel, Conor, Kerin, and Buddy as well as his many dear and devoted friends.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, August 15 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM.
