James R. Durling, 60, died Monday, September 11, 2023, at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, after a period of declining health. Born in Stoughton, son of the late Ralph E. Durling and Jean E. (Clark) Durling, he was raised and educated in Stoughton and was a graduate of Stoughton High School. Jim worked in Auto Sales for several area dealers for several years. He was a resident of Methuen for over 10 years, previously living in Atkinson, New Hampshire. He previously owned a landscape business and worked in the car business for many years. In his free time, he enjoyed playing sports and watching all Boston Sports Team, and spending time with his family and his friends.
Jim was the brother of David J. Durling of NH and Maureen Lombardi of Duxbury. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert C. Durling and his brother Ralph Michael “Mike” Durling, who died the previous day, September 10th. He spent a lot of time caring and helping with his nieces and nephews, John and Eric Gillespie, Heidi Chavez, Shannon Bennett, and Christine Durling. He is also survived by his longtime girlfriend, Maura Serpa.
Visiting Hours will be held concurrently with his brother Mike in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., Stoughton on Tuesday, September 19th from 4-7 PM. Funeral Mass will also be held concurrently with his brother Mike the next day, September 20th at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton. Interment will be held at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Avon. In lieu of flowers donations in Jim’s memory can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
