James G. DelMonico, 88, a longtime resident of Brockton, died at Brockton Hospital on Friday, June 24. He was the husband of Elizabeth B. (Roberts) Bussey DelMonico and the late Mary A. (Bussey) DelMonico. Born in Boston, he was raised in Roxbury and graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School. He lived in Rockland for 17 years before moving to Brockton 30 years ago. Mr. DelMonico was a U.S. Army paratrooper with the 101st Airborne and fought at the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Milton for over 25 years before retiring 40 years ago. He was a member of the VFW Post 8892 in Avon and a lifetime member of the DAV. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed bowling, woodworking and shooting pool.
In addition to his wife, Mr. DelMonico is survived by his daughters, Deborah A. Florent and her husband Steven and Pamela J. Ribeiro and her husband Russell all of Brockton, as well as his stepchildren, Kenneth L. Bussey and Kathleen M. Doucette and her husband John all of NH, Michael E. Bussey and his wife Lisa of TX and James J. Bussey of Haverhill. He was the grandfather of James O'Rourke and his wife Cindy, Bryan O'Rourke, Nicole Ribeiro and Carly Ribeiro. He was the brother of Christina DelMonico-Sandler and her husband Charles of Stoughton and his late twin brother, Panfilo "Pat" DelMonico. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Monday, June 27 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday from 4-7 PM. Burial will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Donations in James' memory may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation, 8 Astor Ave., Suite 2, Norwood, MA 02062.
