James Edward Costa

James Edward Costa, 71, died at the VA Medical Center in Brockton on Tuesday, March 11 after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Clare A. (Leard) Costa. Born and educated in Dartmouth, he was a resident of Stoughton since 1972. He also attended night school at M.I.T. for 2 years. Mr. Costa was an U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War. He was the owner of J & C Variety Store in Abington for 20 years before retiring in 2001. He was a member of the American Legion Post 89 in Stoughton and loved wood carving in his free time.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Costa is survived by his children, James E. Costa, Jr. and his wife Helen of Brockton and Tina M. Roberts and her husband Edward of Stoughton, as well as his grandchildren, Jenepher M., Robyn A. and James M. Costa and Nicholas E., Courtney M. and Stephanie A. Roberts. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Robyn Ann Costa. He was the brother of Milton Costa of FL, John Costa of Blackstone, Kathleen Sferraza of Lakeville, William Costa of NH and the late George Costa. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, March 14 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 8:45 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday 4-8 PM. Burial will take place at the VA National Cemetery in Bourne. Due to floral restrictions at cemetery, donations in James' memory may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
