James R. Cardella, 89, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Monday, September 10. He was the husband of 63 years of Lucy C. (LaCava) Cardella. Born and raised in Boston, he was a graduate of English High School and Boston University. Mr. Cardella was a resident of Stoughton for the past 40 years. He was a Technician 5th Grade in the U.S. Army and a Veteran of World War II. Mr. Cardella was the Director of Finance for the U.S. Postal Service in the Boston Region, where he worked for 37 years before retiring 32 years ago. He was a Past Commander of the American Legion Post 196 in Boston. He was an avid piano player and Boston sports fan, but his greatest love was spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Cardella is survived by his children, James W. Cardella, Mary Jean Pardi and Anthony C. Cardella all of Stoughton and Janet A. Ilacqua of Easton, as well as his grandchildren, Jennifer Barr, Matthew Ilacqua, Christopher Ilacqua, Ashley Pardi, James Cardella, MaryAnne Cardella, Lauren Cardella, Jeanine Ilacqua, Julianne Cardella and Heather Cardella and his great-granddaughter, Madison Barr. He was the brother of Concetta Sabatini and Albert DiBlasi both of Canton and the late Antoinette Kasianowicz. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Wednesday, September 12 from 9-9:45 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church, Canton at 10:30 AM. Interment will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
