James P. "Jim" Byron, 98, a longtime resident of South Dennis and Stoughton, died October 30, 2016. Jim was the husband of 70 years of Anna (McGrath) Byron. Born and raised in Stoughton. Mr. Byron was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army Air Force, serving in the South and Western Pacific and the Philippines. He worked as a custodian for many years for the Town of Stoughton, retiring in 1982. He was active in Stoughton Youth Hockey and enjoyed fishing "the canal."
In addition to his wife, Mr. Byron is survived by his children; Dennis Byron and his wife Judy of Milford, Kathleen Byron of Dennis, and Patrick Byron and his wife Jan of Stoughton. He was predeceased by daughter Margaret Byron, his parents, William and Mary (Beagin) Byron, and his sisters Louise Fitzgerald and Mary Sheehan. Jim was the beloved grandfather of Kelley St. Coeur, Eileen Radcilffe, Shauna Downey, Maura LaPlante, Nora Dolan, Colleen Byron, Sean Byron and Mikaela Byron. He also leaves 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held in the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton on Thursday, November 3 at 11:15 AM. Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27) Stoughton prior to the mass from 10-10:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Bethany Health Care Center, Office of Advancement, 97 Bethany Road, Framingham, MA 01702, a ministry of Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston.
