Imogene (Sanders) Gawrys, 87, died Monday, September 10, 2012 at the Copley at Stoughton Nursing Home after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late John Gawrys. Born in Smyrna, Arkansas, she was raised and educated in Hector Arkansas. Mrs. Gawrys moved to Stoughton in the 1950's and lived there until the late 1980's when she moved to Brockton. She has been a resident of Brockton since that time. She worked as a stitcher for many area firms including Laurie's Sportswear in Stoughton, Piccento Sportswear and SS Pierce in Brockton. She retired several years ago. She was a member of the Ladies Garment Worker's Union. In her free time, she enjoyed watching TV, gardening, sewing and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, John Gawrys of Brockton, Linda M. Hickey of Stoughton and Joyce Allen of NJ. She was the sister of Therma Rackley, Burgess Sanders, JL Sanders and Marnell Walker all of AR. She was predeceased by 2 sisters and is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- grandson.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Friday, September 14 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at VA National Cemetery, Bourne.
