Humberto A. Lopes, 87, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on Sunday, October 20, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of 64 years of Maria F. (Medina) Lopes. Son of the late Jose and Cristina (Resendes) Lopes, he was born and raised in Santa Cruz, Flores, Azores, Portugal. While in Portugal, he worked on whaling ships. He came to the States many years ago and was a resident of Stoughton since 1973. Humberto was a school bus driver for Unda's Bus in Stoughton and drove in both Sharon and Stoughton for many years before retiring at age 75. He was a handyman who could do everything from fixing glasses to killing spiders. He loved the ocean and, in his free time, enjoyed playing guitar and tending to his beloved garden.
In addition to his wife, Humberto is survived by his children, Helvio M. Lopes and Helia M.M. Horner both of Stoughton, as well as his grandchildren, Edwin N. Horner, Madison E. Horner and Joslyn Arcuri. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Friday, October 25 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
