Herbert A. DiGiammo, 79, affectionately known as "Bippy" to his family, a longtime resident of Brockton, Retired Brockton Fire Fighter, lover of life and the World's Worst Gambler, died Monday, November 16, 2015 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a long and courageous battle with lung disease. Born, raised and educated in Brockton, Herbie was a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1954 and a resident of Weymouth for the past 12 years. Herbie was a dedicated, respected and decorated Firefighter for the City of Brockton for over 30 years, retiring in 1995, and a veteran of the US Army. After his retirement, he took a job as a funeral assistant and limousine driver for his longtime friend George Pica at Pica Funeral Home in Brockton and later worked at Farley Funeral Home in Stoughton for many years, retiring 3 years ago due to his health.
Herbie was small in stature, but larger than life. He was a skilled handyman who enjoyed cooking, golfing, vacationing, bluegrass music, his dogs, laughing and gambling on anything. He enjoyed making people laugh and loved being the center of attention. He loved sharing recipes and cooking with his daughter Mimi. He loved spending time with his daughter Suzanne at Twin River, Foxwoods and whenever they could, trips to Las Vegas. He often said he "Had more fun than anyone should be allowed to have."
He was the beloved father of Marianna "Mimi" DiGiammo of Quincy and Suzanne DiGiammo Rayberg and her husband Joel Rayberg of Braintree. He was the cherished grandfather of Ryan Higginson-Scott, Arianna Hibbard and Kyle Burke. He was the brother of Paul DiGiammo of East Bridgewater, Andrew DiGiammo of Pennsylvania and the late Jack DiGiammo and Clare DiGiammo. He is survived by his former wife and close friend Beverly Higginson Joyce of Quincy and longtime family friend Cindy Galvin of Weymouth. He was predeceased by his beloved dog Rocket. He is also survived by many loving friends, family and people that he borrowed money from.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, November 21 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM.
